The Call for Mindfulness in School

“Under duress we don’t rise to our expectations, we fall to our level of training.”
-Bruce Lee

According to Mindfulschools.org:

School can be a stressful place and stress impairs attention, emotion and mood regulation, sleep, and learning readiness daily in American classrooms. Even more troubling, prolonged exposure to childhood toxic stress has lifelong impacts on mental and physical health.

Practicing mindfulness can reduce our feeling of being overwhelmed and busy and can give us a sense of self.

When mindfulness is practiced in school according to The Holistic Life Foundation, a non-profit that has brought mindfulness practices to public schools in Baltimore, found these practices increase attendance, reduce fights and behavioral problems, and increase grades and engagement.

The Lotus School has a integrated school wide mindfulness program, with time for meditation, reflection and service to others.  We believe that practicing everyday will ensure our student success when life challenges them.
