On a beautiful June day, The Lotus School spent the better part of the school day hiking the trails at Nockamixon State Park. Our school does a visit at least twice a year, as we are fortunate enough to be very close to a trail head. Along the route we stopped to examine forest creatures, skip stones at the lake, and play frisbee. We ended up at a scenic overlook to enjoy our packed lunches before making our way back. Learning opportunities and different perspectives present themselves when we take the classroom outside. Practicing periods of mindful silent walking, stopping to read a map, and reflecting and discussing a previous classroom lesson are just a few examples of how learning happens on field trips.
